"My time in the HBComm program at Lakehead University Orillia has been amazing, and I am so glad that I chose to come here. Being an international student can be really stressful, but all of the support that I have received from people at Lakehead has made my transition really smooth. I have received financial support from scholarships. Katie Fraser, the International Specialist, has continued to help me since my first day on campus, and the Student Success Centre has taught me a lot of valuable skills.
Outside of class, I have really enjoyed being involved with the Lakehead University dance team. It is a special community, and my teammates support me and give me the courage to push myself outside of my comfort zone.
Over the course of my time at Lakehead, I have become more confident in myself. The small class sizes that Lakehead offers are what led me to choose Lakehead, and the professors and students that I have class with encourage me so much. When I first arrived at Lakehead, I was quiet and anxious about public speaking, but my experiences here have shaped me into someone who is confident and independent.
Finally, I am thrilled that I was able to take part in the RBC Work Integrated Learning Program. I have learned so much from local businesses, grant processes, and business plans when working with Wendy Timpano from the Orillia and Area Community Development Corporation (CDC). The RBC Work Integrated Learning program gives you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in the classroom. The workplace is all about application and hands-on learning which is really helping me determine what I want to do for my career."
