International Education Week 2020

A Message from James Aldridge (Vice Provost, International)

Welcome to International Education Week!

Headshot of James Aldridge

Lakehead University International (LUI) is excited and proud to host our first-ever International Education Week (IEW). An annual event celebrated around the world during the third week of November, IEW provides an opportunity for LUI to highlight the importance of international education, and showcase our efforts to internationalize Lakehead’s campuses and communities.

Interactive sessions and presentations hosted by staff, faculty, and community partners will recognize and celebrate internationalization, embrace cultural diversity, explore opportunities for working and studying abroad, and showcase how we prepare students for international study and work environments. I want to encourage all members of the Lakehead university community to get involved with IEW 2020 and celebrate our amazing International campuses.

In keeping with our vision to develop inter-culturally competent and socially engaged leaders through transformative global experiences, and despite finding ourselves in the middle of a pandemic, LUI is going ahead with efforts to honour the many cultures that make our communities so vibrant, and to engage in online opportunities for knowledge development and skill-building. From cooking classes to cultural celebrations, panel discussions to cultural intelligence workshops, and country explorations to the Human Library project, IEW offers something for everyone.

Below please find the schedule of events and how you can register, as well as a list of international resources and relevant contact information. Register now and Zoom will send you a reminder! We look forward to spending time with you!

Hosted by the English Language Centre (ELC) Sponsored Group Coordinator, this video offers an insight into the steps ELC short-term groups follow from the moment they arrive in Thunder Bay to the moment they come to the ELC on their first day of classes. The video can be of benefit to students planning to attend any of the ELC programs. In this way, they will be better prepared for their arrival.
