|Where Can I Go?|
To view a list of eligible institutions, please visit our Partner Institutions page.
Credits you take while abroad will transfer as a pass/fail (no grade assigned). However, grades will be counted if you are required to maintain a specific average for a scholarship.
Transfer credits for courses must be pre-approved by relevant program Chair(s) on the Academic Plan Form and a Letter of Permission must then be completed and submitted to Lori Vidotto in the Enrollment Services Office at Lakehead University. If the courses noted on the Letter of Permission have been successfully completed (ie. according to the conditions placed on the Letter of Permission), then the pre-approved courses taken at the Host Institution will be applied towards your degree at Lakehead University as transfer credits.
When you study abroad at one of our partner institutions, you continue to pay your standard tuition fees to Lakehead University. You are not required to pay any tuition fees to the host school.
At host institutions, the services available to international students are also provided to an exchange student. This often includes assistance with on-campus accommodation. Expenses associated with accommodation, travel, visas, residence permits, health insurance coverage and the like are the responsibility of the exchange student.
Students accepted to participate in an exchange retain their status as a full-time student at Lakehead University. Therefore, OSAP recipients retain their eligibility. However, outgoing exchange students must notify the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office of their intent to study abroad.
Lakehead International also offers bursaries for outbound exchange students. Lakehead’s partner institutions also offer financial assistance to incoming students to help offset their expenses.
It is often not necessary for students to be fluent in the language of their host country. The majority of our partner institutions offer a wide range of courses in English, and host institutions often go out of their way to make Canadian students feel welcome. There are many different culture and language courses offered by host institutions to acquaint the student with their host country's social and political systems.
Lakehead University students have proven to be very good ambassadors for the university, and all of our partner institutions are eager to welcome more!
