English Language Centre Students
As a student in the English Language Centre, you will be automatically registered to receive health insurance through guard.me. Please e-mail Christopher Gallinger at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Students visiting Lakehead University on exchange programs are also enrolled into guard.me for the duration of their stay. Please e-mail Christopher Gallinger at email@example.com if you have questions.
Undergraduate & Graduate International Students
Every International Student must be enrolled in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). All students should be enrolled for as long as they will be studying at Lakehead. Your UHIP card will be e-mailed to your Lakehead University e-mail address once you are enrolled.
The fee for this insurance plan will be automatically billed to your student account upon registration and is due with your first instalment. Current UHIP rates can be found at uhip.ca. If dependents are joining you (spouse or children), you are required to enroll them in UHIP as well.
Please email Christopher Gallinger at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
While some Health Clinics in Thunder Bay (and elsewhere in Ontario) will directly charge your Insurance, in some cases, you may be required to pay upfront or be invoiced. In that case, you will need to complete a claim form to either pay for the clinic's services, or receive a reimbursement. Please refer to the uhip tutorial on how to submit a UHIP claim.
Students who are withdrawing from the University, or who are graduating (in November, or May), may request a refund of a portion of their UHIP fees. Please note that refund applications are accepted on an on-going basis until March 1st of each academic year. For questions about receiving a refund: email@example.com
