Jerri-Lynn is a mother, wife, teach, researcher and the coordinator of the Native Access Program at Lakehead University. She is Cree and Métis with European ancestry. Her family comes from Bigstone Cree Nation in Northern Alberta, her Métis roots come from the Red River Settlement. Her education journey began in a joint program between Red River College and the University of Winnipeg, where she obtained a Diploma in Aboriginal Languages (Cree), a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and a Bachelor of Education degree in 2011. Her passion for learning led her to continue her studies at Lakehead University and she is currently enrolled in the Master of Education, Indigenous Education and will graduate in May 2020.

Elder GENE NOWEGEJICK, will be conducting a Sweat Lodge on Friday, February 28th, 2020 starting at 3pm at the Lakehead University Sweat Lodge site. Women should wear long skirts and a t-shirt. Men should wear shorts. Be sure to bring a towel. Participants are encouraged to bring the Elder a tobacco offering which is available at ACSS (UC1007). Women who are on their moon time must not participate in the Sweat Lodge Ceremony or handle ceremonial items.

She is a grandmother pipe carrier, a sacred circle facilitator, songwriter, singer and drummer. She does teachings on the Medicine Wheel, the Sacred Medicines, and the Seven Sacred Grandfathers and the hand drum.

You are welcome to stop in and visit Beatrice in the Elders Room in the Gakina Nindinawemaaganag Lounge UC1007.

Aboriginal Cultural & Support Services is pleased to have Elder Gerry Martin available to the students for individual or group discussions. 

Gerry Martin is a former nurse and a student of traditional Aboriginal healing methods. He is from the Mattagami First Nation of Ojibways in Northeaster Ontario near Timmins. Gerry feels very comfortable teaching, learning and sharing his knowledge of traditional Aboriginal healing methods and considers it a life-long journey to learn more. He is a son, father, and grandfather and Great-Grandpa who follows his destiny and enjoys life to the fullest.
