The Indigenous Student Services Centre is pleased to share this inspiring student speaker series. Join to learn about these Indigenous graduate students and their experiences along their educational journey.  

The third speaker in the series is Clifford Mushquash. Clifford is a student in the Master of Public Health, Indigenous & Northern Health.

Clifford Mushquash is Anishnabe and a member of Pays Plat First Nation. Clifford has previously studied business, political science, and public administration.  After working for several years in health and human services, he returned to full time studies in 2016.  In May 2020, he graduated from Lakehead University (Thunder Bay campus) with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and an Honours Bachelor of Social Work.  

Giving back to the community is important for Clifford.  He is a member of the Rotary Club of Thunder Bay - Lakehead, the Secretary for the Board of Directors of the John Howard Society of Thunder Bay and District, is a judge and evaluator for Skate Canada, and has recently become a mentor for the Work-Study Program at Outside Looking In, a Canada-wide organization offering mentoring programs to Indigenous Youth.  

Clifford is currently employed in the Faculty of Education at Lakehead University as an administrative assistant for the Indigenous Language Teacher’s Diploma Program, which trains fluent language speakers to be language teachers.  He is currently completing a Masters in Public Health with a specialization in Indigenous and Northern Health.
