School can be expensive. The following programs may assist you with covering the cost of living, food, energy and other expenses.
There is opportunity for low-income families to take advantage of the federal government's Canada Learning Bond. By simply opening an RESP and getting a social insurance number for their child, families can receive a total of $2000, without having to contribute any money directly.
Thunder Bay Good Food Box Program
The Good Food Box Program is a non-profit program for families and individuals who want to purchase quality, fresh, local produce at a lower price than shopping at grocery stores. You can purchase a family box for $25 or an individual box for $15.
LUSU Peoples Potato
Held by Lakehead University Student Union every Thursday from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., outside the Outpost. Everyone is asked to bring own plate and cutlery. Meal is FREE!
The food bank is open Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.- Students may take 1 bag of food once every 30 days, or 2 bags if they have children. Contact the Food Bank Coordinator at 343-8888 Ext. 8850 or email is foodbank@lusu.ca for more information.
