Honours Bachelor of Arts & Science in Criminology
Orillia, ON

Upon graduating from college in 2012 and wanting a university degree, I came to Lakehead and met with the head of the criminology department - Dr. Curtis Fogel – inquiring about both the school and the program. With Dr. Fogel’s guidance and advice paired with the appealing and comforting Orillia campus, I chose to accept my offer to Lakehead and have never regretted this decision. I was able to transfer one year’s worth of credits from my college courses that I previously took. I was then able to complete my undergraduate degree in three years instead of the standard four.

My transition from college to university was smooth and exciting because of Lakehead and its endless opportunities. Born and raised in the City of Orillia, I was more than thrilled to choose to attend Lakehead’s local campus. During my time as a student here I received a top-notch education, I was involved in student life activities such as intramural sports and student-run events and I earned a summer employment position as well.

At Lakehead I was able to select from a multitude of courses to fill my timetable, all with qualified and eager professors who were always willing to work with students to ensure their success. From online classes to small lab settings, large lecture styled classes and small, one-to-one opportunities, Lakehead offers it all and will only continue to grow within its coming years. At a smaller, more interactive type of campus I really felt I was able to relate and build connections with many students from diverse programs, professors from different programs and staff from all areas within the school.

With the addition of my degree from Lakehead University I have recently started working as a civilian member for the OPP and hope one day to be a uniform member and give back to the communities of this province that I have the privilege of calling home. I chose Lakehead, and you should too!
