Teaching You How to Think, Not What to Think

Social Sciences Class

The Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities at Lakehead offers you the opportunity to shape and develop skills in critical thinking and communication while broadening your understanding of diversity of cultural and historical perspectives at both of our campus locations in Thunder Bay or Orillia.

Explore your philosophical vision of the world, examine historical perspectives, and express your creativity in a supportive environment where you will be challenged by thought-provoking lectures, seminars, classroom debates and discussions led by our exceptional faculty of professors and researchers.

Degree Combinations

Many of our programs are designed in such a way that you can choose to pursue a double major, a minor, or to study a major subject in depth. There are also options to combine your Social Sciences & Humanities degree with a degree in Education (also known as Concurrent Education), allowing you to study two degrees at once.

The Benefit of Small Class Sizes

Classes at Lakehead University are small, allowing for close interaction with professors and fellow students. There are also numerous opportunities to get involved in research and extra-curricular activities, such as academic associations, Lakehead interest groups, awareness and diversity campaigns and much more. With 85% of classes having fewer than 50 students, and 50% of classes having fewer than 25, Lakehead students are able to engage in a more meaningful classroom experience that ultimately contributes to their success in graduate school and careers beyond university.

Programs in Social Sciences & Humanities at Lakehead University offer an exceptional and unconventional academic experience!
