Experience Science Innovation and Research First-Hand at Lakehead

Science Lab

Whether you are interested in life sciences, physical sciences, environmental science, math or technology, the Faculty of Science & Environmental Studies offers you a wealth of innovative, stimulating and hands-on programs to discover.

Faculty Highlights

Explore the diversity and complexity of traditional sciences like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, Geology, Geography, Anthropology or Economics as well as interdisciplinary programs that combine a number of science disciplines such as Water Resource Science, Applied Life Sciences, Geoarchaeology, or Chemistry with a Specialization in Medical Sciences.

Our Division of Environmental Studies offers five distinct programs in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies and Environmental Sustainability. These environmental programs are nationally accredited through ECO-Canada. Home to one of the top ancient DNA laboratories in the world, along with other research facilities and centres, Lakehead University provides you with the opportunity to learn in world-class facilities from some of the top researchers and faculty members in the world.

Exceptional Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Research opportunities are also available for you as an undergraduate science student. Our students have been involved in archaeological digs, the Biorefining initiative and DNA extraction and sequencing at the Paleo-DNA Lab. Opportunities for work experience can also be found through our professors, who will often employ students throughout the year and over the summer.

Outdoor Lab Settings Like No Other

Our unique location surrounded by the natural environment will allow you to enjoy hands-on experience in our very own backyard. It is not uncommon to take our biology, geology, environmental sustainability, geography or anthropology classes to the natural laboratory to complement the in-class learning where you will gain valuable skills and a competitive edge through fieldwork opportunities.
