Preamble

This document sets standards of care and foundations for use of animals by Lakehead University. The University will work with the Animal Care Committee (ACC) to ensure that all ACC members, animal users and caregivers are informed of and comply with the institutional animal care and use policies. The University will ensure that all members of the ACC are provided with training opportunities to understand their work and role.

Grants, Computer Costs

The Executive Committee of the Board of Governors approved the recommendations of the Board Audit Committee that:
  1. the University not undertake at this time a system charging researchers for specific time used for computing services and
  2. any specific amount identified in a research grant for computer costs be transferred automatically to the Computer Services budget if the researcher intends to use the University=s computer for his research.

1.0 Preamble

In the tradition of academic research in Canadian universities, faculty and professional staff at Lakehead University are encouraged to seek research support from external agencies such as governments at all levels, industry and other elements of the private sector, philanthropic foundations, and other organizations that share the University's academic or social visions.

LUFA Collective Agreement:  Under the Lakehead University Faculty Association collective agreement (“LUFA CA”) LUFA faculty agreed to share 25% of the “net proceeds” from protected inventions, improvements, designs, or developments (“Commercialization Project”) with the University if the University provided “ordinary support” towards the creation of the Commercialization Project.  However, if the University provided “extraordinary support”, LUFA faculty agreed to share 50% of net proceeds with the University.

Disposal of Equipment

Rationale
From time to time, research equipment acquired through funds from research granting agencies becomes obsolete or redundant for the needs of faculty. A policy to control the orderly disposal of such equipment, and the eventual use of the proceeds from disposal is required.
