The purposes of the Inaugural Professorial Lectures are to enhance generally the academic ambience of the University, to share knowledge broadly with the University and local community, and to be a recognition and celebration of faculty members who have been promoted to the rank of full professor.

Each Faculty member promoted to the rank of full professor will be asked by his or her Dean to present a lecture within a year of promotion that would be open to all members of the University community and the public. At the appropriate Dean's discretion a reception may be held after each lecture and the lectures may be printed in a special series. These Inaugural Professorial Lectures are voluntary on the part of the faculty members.
