Lakehead University is seeking an enthusiastic individual who is excited by the opportunity to join the Orillia Lakehead University Team as the Athletics and Recreation Coordinator! Lakehead University, Orillia competes in the Ontario College Athletics Association (OCAA). The OCAA is a provincial sport governing body and includes Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR). The Athletics and Recreation Coordinator works to ensure students have access to an inclusive and welcoming experience that provides variety, flexibility, and a range of opportunities within Athletics. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, Administration the Coordinator manages all day-to-day operations of varsity, club, extramural, intramural, campus recreation and fitness facilities and programming. 

 

DUTIES

  • Advise on the development and implementation of safe sport policies including but not limited to the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), Sexual Violence, Anti-Racism/Oppression, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization
  • With direction and approval from the AVP, implement all objectives outlined in the Lakehead University Orillia Athletics & Recreation strategic operational plan 2020-2025
  • Hire, mentor, supervise, and direct all employees in Orillia Athletics & Recreation including: all coaching staff (approximately 12), athletic therapists, and student employees.
  • Establish strong hiring, screening, and on boarding processes and material for all employees and ensure materials align with safe sport procedures.
  • Actively promote intramural programs, teams, and events including event scheduling, booking of spaces and locations for events to occur and enabling high-levels of student participation
  • Cultivate and establish close relationships with local and regional athletics facilities and centres in efforts to promote cross-developmental programs, services and supports.
  • Attend OCAA meetings including the Annual General Meeting, and sport-specific meetings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field required (i.e. recreation, education, sport information,

Business)

  • 3 to 5 years of experience working in a post-secondary setting required
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience with duties/responsibilities/accountabilities list above generally acquired through working in a high performance sport or recreation or sport facility environment
  • Proven organizational, leadership, and management skills
  • Proven success in delivering results within a sport or post-secondary setting
  • Experience coordinating sporting events and game day logistics preferably in an intercollegiate or inter-university setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe sport practices and the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement in complex high risk scenarios
  • Understanding of dynamics of working with student athletes and coaches
