Primarily an 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift, Monday to Friday. 

When required, hours of work and location may be modifiedto address the needs of the University.

 

DUTIES:

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled work relative to the maintenance and repair of University buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in one or more trades such as carpentry, painting and general construction; emphasis will be on carpentry.
  • Report to the Manager Residence Operations and Facilities and assist in the solution of problems related to the operation and usage of the Residence buildings, equipment, furniture and vehicles.
  • Maintain appropriate work records.
  • Provide instruction and assign daily work
  • Assists contractors by providing information about Residence buildings
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education and completion of tradesman qualifications or technical school graduation in a trade such as carpentry, painting, general construction, or a combination of equivalent experience and education; carpentry certificate preferred;
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and practices of a particular trade as demonstrated by a trade certificate;
  • General knowledge of recognized practices, safe work habits and techniques employed in construction and maintenance;
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work;
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Ability to deal courteously with staff, students and the general public;
  • Must have a good work record;
  • Must have a good record of attendance and punctuality;
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence;
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards.
