Project title:

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic response on chronic disease management and quality of life in Indigenous and Black communities in Ontario

This research responds to the need to mitigate the wider impacts of COVID-19, by evaluating how

the health system (policy and practice) is responding to the needs and realities of Indigenous and Black peoples, during the pandemic and beyond, with the aim to contribute to social justice and health equity. Namely, we intend to:

-        Assess and better understand the impacts of the policy response to the pandemic for people living with chronic conditions among members of Indigenous and Black communities;

-        Learn about approaches offered for chronic disease management during the pandemic, their successes and/or challenges;

-        Provide recommendations for policy responses and care approaches that are informed by anti-oppressive and intersectional approaches, overall and in future emergencies

This is a 2-year project using an intersectional mixed methods approach, allowing for consideration of both numbers, narratives, collaborative interpretations and relationships that are centered on Indigenous and Black knowledge and community participation.
