The Development Officer is the ideal position for a person seeking campaign experience and who wants to grow their opportunities in the fundraising profession. The role is pivotal to building relationships between donors and the University for the benefit of students.

As an ambassador for Lakehead University, the Development Officer is a key member of the External Relations team and its philanthropic endeavors. Located in Thunder Bay, the Development Officer is responsible for major and legacy gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship to support institutional cases for support to advance fundraising campaigns.

As a relationship builder, the Development Officer works to align donor’s interests with Lakehead University’s top priorities for its students and communities.

Trust, Respect, Connection and Adaptability are at the core of the External Relations team. The Development Officer is a valued member of this team within an environment of equity, inclusion, anti-racism and anti-oppression.

Qualifications:

-       Post-secondary diploma or degree.

-       A minimum of five years of experience in securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and private sources of funding.

-       Demonstrated knowledge of legacy giving programs and ability in securing legacy gifts.

-       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

-       Ability to work independently and with a team through collaboration by phone and videoconferencing.

-       Ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and volunteers.

-       Data entry and database management skills.

-       A strong understanding of ethics related to fundraising activities.

-       Ability to foster positive working relationships within a team environment.

-       Demonstrated flexibility in managing shifting demands and priorities while meeting multiple deadlines.

-       The incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license.

-       The ability to work some evenings and weekends is required.
