The Research and Strategic Initiatives Facilitator is responsible for increasing research and innovation capacity and partnerships for Lakehead University in Orillia. The Facilitator will provide leadership and advice on strategies to increase research and innovation capacity at the Orillia campus, as well as connect Orillia researchers to other Lakehead research collaborators, opportunities, and community and private sector partners in Simcoe County and beyond. The candidate will liaise with research and innovation administrative support units in order to support effective and coordinated research and innovation services at the Orillia campus.
The Research and Strategic Initiatives Facilitator will work closely with the Principal of the Orillia campus and associated administrative personnel. The incumbent will play a key role in ensuring that Orillia faculty and graduate students receive the same level of customer service as faculty and graduate students in Thunder Bay. The candidate will also: facilitate the development of individual, multidisciplinary and multi-institutional research initiatives and funding applications; perform extensive background research and substantive editing of proposals; facilitate economic development activities between the Orillia campus and partners located within Simcoe County, Orillia and Barrie; and coordinate research and innovation opportunities with administration at Georgian College and business support programs and organizations located within Simcoe County, including the economic development partnership network. The Facilitator will coordinate research and innovation events and professional development workshops (e.g. grant-writing, funding opportunities information sessions, etc.), industry research networking events, innovation and intellectual property workshops and student entrepreneurship events. The incumbent will also assist with the coordination of Research & Innovation Week in Orillia.
The ideal candidate will have a Masters degree (PhD would be an asset) in a relevant field that is complemented by 5 years of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment. Your interest in partnership development and community relations, along with your interpersonal, writing and communication skills, will allow you to develop and confidently convey the University’s research expertise to community partners and funding agencies. Expertise in coaching, mentoring and delivering professional development workshops is expected. Knowledge of grant writing is a definite asset.
