Lakehead University is now seeking to appoint a new University Librarian. With oversight of the University’s archives and five libraries, based across the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses, the Librarian will play a key role in furthering the University’s research and learning objectives for the coming decade and beyond. Central to Lakehead University’s 2019-2024 Research Plan is to ensure that researchers have access to superior research resources and infrastructure at both of campuses. A vibrant and well-resourced library is essential to sustaining Lakehead’s research enterprise, and as such the Library plays a critical role in ensuring researchers can easily access primary and online materials, journals, databases, and references.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the University Librarian provides leadership and direction to Lakehead Library as an active and integral partner with students, staff, faculty, Deans and the Senior Management Team. The Library plays a key role in promoting knowledge creation, exploration and discovery. The successful candidate will work towards achieving the University’s mission and goals as outlined in the University’s strategic plan, and in fulfilling Lakehead Library’s mission to advance research, learning and teaching excellence.

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree from an accredited school of library, archival and information science. They will have a vision for the research library in the 21st century and a proven commitment to excellence, extensive senior administrative experience in an academic research library, a demonstrated ability to develop external relations and will be collaborative and entrepreneurial. The University Librarian will possess authentic leadership skills and sensitivity to the challenges and opportunities present in building and retaining an inclusive, transparent, collegial work environment.
