The Technician supports Applied Life Sciences and Electrical Engineering undergraduate degree-diploma programs that are part of the Lakehead University-Georgian College Partnership. The position will report to the Department Chair of Sustainability Sciences and the Chair of Physics, and is expected to start January 1, 2020.
This position will support students taking Physical Science courses (Physics and Chemistry). The Technician sets up and takes down lab experiments and equipment, trains students, and works collaboratively with Lakehead University and Georgian College faculty and staff.
The Technician is a crucial part of our student-centered learning environment. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of our students during laboratory work and they will perform other related duties including testing safety equipment, and ordering, organizing and maintaining supplies and equipment.
• MSc Degree in Physics, Chemistry or in a related discipline
• 1 year of related lab and teaching experience is preferred
• Familiarity with WHMIS (GHS) regulations and requirements
• Good communication, organization and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of health and safety, and lab practices
• General understanding of purchasing and accounting processes
• Ability to interact effectively with students, staff and faculty
• Strong computer skills
