The Lakehead University/TBRHRI Research Chair will be granted a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and will have demonstrated or have considerable promise to lead an internationally recognized independent program of research. Lakehead University requires qualified candidates to have a completed PhD, an innovative and original research program, and a high likelihood to secure new external funding and establish robust research collaborations within and outside of Lakehead University and the TBRHRI, including with health care organizations such as Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC). A demonstrated ability to teach effectively and supervise graduate students is also expected. The successful candidate will enhance interdisciplinary research and training and attract, develop, and retain excellent students and future researchers. The successful candidates will bring an innovative perspective to the University and the TBRHRI/SC in carrying out and leading research. The expertise of the Research Chair will complement research underway at Lakehead University and TBRHRI/SC. The Research Chair will be given a competitive salary, start-up package, a reduced teaching load, modern laboratory facilities, and access to research equipment at Lakehead University and the TBRHRI.
The Lakehead University/TBRHRI Research Chair in Smart Health Technology will develop, evaluate, and translate knowledge related to smart health technology research, especially but not exclusively in relation to indigenous people and their communities in Northwestern Ontario. Smart health technology consists of software and mobile technology as well as integrated hardware such as smart phones and sensors that advance health. It is expected that research outcomes in this area will result in more and faster access to health services, such as early detection, real time monitoring, standardized treatment, interactive self-help, and more, in indigenous and other rural and remote communities in Northern Ontario. The successful candidate will appointed in the Department of Computer Science at Lakehead University, with a joint research chair appointment at the TBRHRI.
