Location: Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada and/or Orillia, Ontario, Canada

The English Language Centre at Lakehead University offers exceptional and innovative English language programs throughout the year in a variety of platforms: the Academic English Program (AEP) is for international students pursuing post-secondary degrees at Lakehead; English Innovation Programs (EIP) are intensive short-term immersion programs which combine language and thematic or cultural experience packages; and General English offers a customizable short-term program option for a wide variety of individuals and groups at varying levels of English.

Our ELC Instructors are at the heart of our programming. Instructors are dynamic, energetic, passionate about teaching, professional and outgoing. Imperative attributes include the ability to work in a fast-paced learning environment, the ability to adapt to changes with short notice, experience working with very culturally diverse groups with a wide range of language abilities and educational backgrounds, and flexibility in scheduling and availability.


  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
  • TESL, TESOL or CELTA certificate or equivalent recognized by Languages Canada at the start date of the appointment.  Please refer to the Languages Canada website for further details

A complete application consists of:

  • a cover letter;
  • a current Curriculum Vitae;
  • a statement of teaching philosophy;
  • a statement of teaching experience;
  • evidence of teaching performance and any other relevant information; and,
  • the names of three references.

Rate of Pay: $30-$40 per hour, reflective of education and experience. A variety of contracts are available ranging from 8 to 23 teaching hours per week.

Start Date: September 5, 2017

Duration: 4 month (one semester) teaching contract with potential for renewal depending on student enrolment.
