Full-Time, 1 Year Contract Starting October 2017

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safety of laboratories, fire, biosafety, as well as providing regular safety training.  Specific duties include investigating and reporting all laboratory complaints, accidents, injuries and incidents and making recommendations for corrective action.  Conducting regular inspections and investigations for biosafety, laboratories and fire safety will be required.  Additionally, the incumbent will maintain appropriate databases, obtain permits, ensure compliance with legislation and codes as well as liaise with several internal and external safety committees, agencies and organizations.  

The incumbent has a degree in chemistry, biology or a related science.  Practical knowledge of typical laboratory operations, chemical, and biological hazards as well as risk mitigation is required.  The successful candidate will be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Fire Code, WHMIS regulations and other related legislated acts and regulations.  Previous experience working in a laboratory environment is required.
