Research Chair in Radiochemistry for Molecular Imaging and Advanced Diagnostics

Lakehead University, in partnership with the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute (TBRRI), invites applications for a new Lakehead University/TBRRI Research Chair in Radiochemistry for Molecular Imaging and Advanced Diagnostics. The position will be tenure-track or tenured and available in any academic rank at the University depending on the candidate's qualifications. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of three faculties: Engineering, Science and Environmental Studies, or Health and Behavioural Sciences. Candidates will have a PhD in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline and a minimum of two years experience post-doctorate. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake an externally funded research program related to the broad field of medical imaging technology and applications, and specifically a program that studies medical applications of radioisotopes, making use of the Advanced Cyclotron Systems TR-24 Cyclotron operated by the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The candidate should have expertise in the use and handling of radioisotopes, understanding of regulatory standards for radiochemicals, and familiarity with the functioning of a cyclotron. Candidates without direct experience with a cyclotron must have significant relevant research experience in some other aspect of radiochemical, medical, or pharmaceutical research. Engineering candidates are expected to be registered professional engineers or qualified and willing to pursue such designation in the Province of Ontario.

The successful candidate will bring an innovative perspective to the University in carrying out and leading research, and contribute to undergraduate and graduate training at the University. The Chair?s expertise will complement research underway at Lakehead University and TBRRI. The Chair will contribute to the on-going initiative to develop an interdisciplinary program in Medical Biophysics and Imaging at Lakehead University. Ph.D. programs are currently available in Biotechnology, Chemistry and Material Science, Electrical Engineering, and Psychology. The Chair will be given a competitive salary, start-up package, and a reduced teaching load.
