Personal Counselling

Personal Counselling Services are an integral part of student support at Lakehead. We are able to provide a wide range of resources, information, and self-help direction as well as short term counselling as required. Our counsellors are also able to connect students to a variety of local services if longer term needs are identified.

Counsellors are highly trained and experienced in a wide variety of treatment modalities to meet student needs.

Lakehead provides a CONFIDENTIAL based service to students built on a mutual respect model. We provide this service to students free of charge at either campus for timely intervention and student convenience. We encourage you to discuss any issues openly with your counsellor and appreciate that they will always be direct and open in their support of your student life at Lakehead.  Issues you discuss with a Personal Counsellor may include:

  • Abuse - verbal, physical, sexual
  • Addictions
  • Adjustment to university life and/or Canadian culture
  • Anger
  • Assertiveness
  • Depression
  • Loss and grief
  • Motivation
  • Peer or family difficulties
  • Relationships
  • Room or house-mate disputes
  • Self-esteem
  • Sexuality and sexual orientation
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Weight preoccupation

Use your student services; they are here to assist with a positive university experience.
