Student Health Services is an appointment based medical clinic for all registered part-time and full-time students at Lakehead University.
Students will be seen by a nurse and/or physician for medical appointments which may include new illnesses, chronic illnesses or a referral.
Examples of medical illnesses seen at our clinic include but are not limited to:
- Chronic health concerns (asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure)
- Sore back/muscle injuries
- Sore throats and coughs
- Bladder infection
- Sexual health concerns
- Wart treatment
- TB (Tuberculosis) skin test
- Flu shots
- Third-party medical exams including those for school, insurance, driving, and employment
Please note that some services are NOT covered by provincial or international health insurance plans (e.g. wart therapy to hands, third-party notes and forms, transfer of health information). Please contact our office at 343- 8361 to ask about Fees that are not covered.
Appointments can be booked to see a Counsellor to help students manage student Life challenges.
Students can access our counsellors for a wide range of concerns related to overall mental health which include but are not limited to:
- Sleep difficulties
- Relationship/interpersonal issues
- Eating and body image challenges
- Sexuality issues
- Loneliness/culture shock
The quickest way to access counselling services, is to attend one of our drop-in clinics.
Drop-In Counselling is offered most days of the week:
- Tuesdays 1:30pm-4:00pm (registration begins at 1:00pm)
- Thursdays & Fridays 9:00am-12:00pm (registration begins at 8:45am)
Drop-in counselling counselling provides single-session therapy using a solution focused approach. Counselling sessions are offered on a first-come first-served basis and there is no appointment required. At the end of the session you will be given a written record of what was talked about. This may include suggestions or recommendations for next steps or referrals to other services that may be helpful to you.
