Enrich Your Education

We offer a co-operative/internship option for all Engineering majors. Applications are submitted either in second or third year, and you will receive prior workshops on interviewing, resume preparation and work performance. You will accumulate at least 16 months of paid, practical work experience and graduate a year later than students enrolled in the regular Bachelor of Engineering program. For more information and academic regulations, please visit our co-op/internship page.

Our Department of Electrical Engineering supports the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, and we encourage you to become an active member of our local chapter. Our chapter hosts a variety of events to encourage idea sharing and networking among students and faculty.

Our Thunderwolf Racing Team, or Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE) Racing Team, is a student-run initiative which designs, builds and races a new Formula-style race car every year. The team is composed of undergraduate students in the Mechanical Engineering program. They regularly compete in races including the FSAE Michigan Competition which is widely recognized as the largest Engineering event in the world. This is a great way to strengthen your practical skills in design, technology and business while having a little fun.

We also encourage you to join the broader Lakehead University Engineering Student Society (ESS). The ESS collaborates with students, professors and industry professionals to enhance the quality of Engineering education at Lakehead University. The ESS hosts a speaker series, professional development workshops, conferences, sporting events, social events and Engineering competitions throughout the year.
