HBK/BEd - Concurrent Education Programs

Introduction: 

Kinesiology students who are also interested in earning a teaching degree can complete any of our concurrent education programs; completing two degrees in six years, or in five years if interested in completing the accelerated program.

HBK/BEd (Kinesiology Major) P/J - Program Requirements

Six Year Program
Students must take all required Kinesiology courses totalling 10.5 full course equivalents (FCEs) plus three required FCEs from the Biology, English and Chemistry departments. One and one-half FCEs are required in Education courses prior to entry into the Professional Program. Elective courses (5.0 FCE in total including 4.5 FCE in open elective and 0.5 FCE Music or Visual Arts) may then be chosen from within the school or outside of the school depending upon the student's career objectives. A total of 20 FCEs plus Kinesiology 4193 are required for graduation. To graduate, students must have a minimum of B (70%) cumulative average in all Kinesiology courses included in the 20 FCEs counted towards the degree and a minimum of 65% cumulative overall average.

Five Year Accelerated Program
Students in the accelerated program are required to take courses year-round. See the link to course registration information below.

Prior to Entry into the 2-Year Professional Program

In concurrent Education programs at the Primary/Junior level, students must meet and complete the requirements of the partnering Honours degree program including all Pre-Professional Program Education requirements. (See Concurrent Degree Programs Information for Education requirements)

 

HBK/BEd (Kinesiology Major) I/S - Program Requirements

Six Year program
Students must take all required Kinesiology courses totalling 10.5 full course equivalents (FCEs) plus three required FCEs from the Biology, English and Chemistry departments. One and one-half FCEs are required in Education courses prior to entry into the Professional Program. Elective courses may then be chosen from within the school or outside of the school depending upon the student's career objectives. A total of 20 FCEs plus Kinesiology 4193 are required for graduation. Also to graduate, students must have minimum of B (70%) cumulative average in all Kinesiology courses included in the 20 FCEs counted towards the degree and a minimum of 65% cumulative overall average.

Five Year Accelerated Program

Note: Students must choose two teachable subjects, the first of which is Health and Physical Education for students in the Honours Kinesiology degree program. See Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education, Levels and Teachables.
