Undergraduate and graduate students have access to state of the art analytical facilities at Lakehead University both within the Department of Geology and through the centralized Lakehead University Centre for Analytical Services (LUCAS). These facilities provide students with the opportunity to get hands-on experience that is hard to come by at larger institutions.

Fourth year undergraduates undertaking their Honour's research at Lakehead have access to a new Microanalytical Facility for fluid inclusion analyses, ICP-AES for whole rock geochemistry and a Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) for studies of mineral chemistry. In the past this has enabled our undergraduate and graduate students to undertake high quality research projects many of which have led to publications in international journals.
