Outdoor Ecological & Experiential Education (OE3) Information

Acceptance into our Environmental Science teachable means that you will be part of a unique Outdoor Ecological and Experiential Education (OE3) schedule. This extraordinary option will help you to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to design and deliver outdoor education programs in traditional and non-traditional school settings.

Lakehead Thunder Bay’s OE3 schedule will prepare you to teach in the Intermediate/Senior (I/S) division. Once you complete our OE3 schedule, you will receive a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) and we will recommend you to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) for certification to teach in Ontario.

The length of your BEd program will directly affect your OE3 schedule; your schedule’s requirements will change if you are in a two-year or a one-year BEd program. The following includes information about what BEd program will apply to you:

  • Two-Year BEd Professional Program – enrolled in any BEd program, either concurrent or consecutive, after August 31, 2015
  • BEd Professional Year – registered in a Concurrent Honours Bachelor Degree Program or a Concurrent Bachelor Degree Program before August 31, 2015

What is the OE3 Schedule?

The OE3 schedule is a unique opportunity for teacher candidates who are part of the Environmental Science teachable. This schedule will prepare you to address the ecological and experiential needs of learners through authentic and holistic learning. The OE3 schedule combines our regular BEd program with innovative, OE3 courses; this combination will allow you to teach the Ontario curriculum while focusing on ecological literacy, experiential learning, and holistic values.

While all of our BEd offerings will help you to teach in a classroom setting, our OE3 schedule will broaden your teaching focus to include non-conventional locations such as the outdoors or the wider community. During your OE3 schedule, you will work with other learners, your instructors, and community members to affect learners and their environments positively.

How do I complete the OE3 Schedule?
