Alvars are special habitats with a thin layer of soil over a limestone bedrock that floods in the spring, creating ideal conditions for the alvar's rare and unusual flora to emerge in a blaze of rainbow colours. This workshop will enable participants to engage with the flora of the alvar through species identification, while also enabling them to begin to see how the alvar itself functions as a unique and complex ecosystem in late spring.
Participants will meet for a Zoom webinar on Monday, June 21 at 7 pm before heading out over the week to find, sketch, and photograph alvar flora for our discussion on Sunday, June 27 at 7 pm.
PowerPoint presentations, video, Flipgrid, and other materials will be provided prior to the synchronous webinar. The workshop will be delivered to you using Zoom technology. You will need a computer, tablet or smartphone with speakers, reliable access to the internet and an email address. Technical support will be provided.
Price for this workshop is $79 (plus HST).
