First Year, New Students

We’re excited for you to begin your first year at Lakehead University. To help you understand what the Fall (September - December) 2020 term will look like, the following outlines the fall term delivery by each Discipline listed by Faculty (Thunder Bay Campus and Orillia Campus). Please review your program requirements in the Academic Calendar

Lakehead-Georgian information is not included below - more information to follow.

Most of our courses for the Fall 2020 term will be provided in some form of online delivery to accommodate the diverse range of students joining the Lakehead community. What does that mean for you? There are two types of online learning – synchronous and asynchronous.

  • In synchronous delivered courses, the instructor and students are all online at the same time, and the material is delivered in real time using methods such as Zoom. Students can ask questions, take tests, or participate in discussions online while the instructor is available to assist them. Denoted as "ZOOM" on the Course Timetable.
  • In asynchronous delivered methods, online course delivery is self-paced with course materials (lectures, readings, forums, assessments, etc.) made available for students to access and engage with on their own schedule. There are still deadlines, and some instructors will release materials on a week-by-week basis rather than all at once, but students can usually decide how and when they will work through the course materials. Denoted as "WEB" on the Course Timetable.

Regardless of mode of delivery, plans are being made to ensure students unable to join synchronously have options to continue with their learning.

As we confirm more details, this page will be updated, including information on Winter 2021 course delivery.
