  • alumni (refers to a group of males, plural, but is generally used to designate males and females, plural)
  • alumna (refers to a singular female)
  • alumnae (refers to a group of females, plural)

Use “alumni” when referring to a mix of men and women:

Example: The Alumni Association of Lakehead University

Example: As an alumna of this institution, she prepared to support its major initiatives.

Example: As an alumnus of this institution, he donated money to create a scholarship fund.
