BioFor ConferenceDate: May 14, 2012Time: 8:00 AM For more Information Contact: Grzegorz Kepka (807) 343-8294 gkepka@lakeheadu.ca Information: The Biorefining Research Institute (BRI) at Lakehead University and the Centre for Research and Innovation in the Bioeconomy (CRIBE) are pleased to announce the Biofor Conference, a new international forum for those working or interested in the emerging bio-industry and bio-economy. The primary focus is to share new and existing knowledge and technology for this quickly expanding field of research and economy. The two day Biofor Conference will include oral and poster presentations as well as an opportunity for a field tour of biomass operations, the Biorefining Research Institute, and other Lakehead University research facilities. Conference Venue: Lakehead University The three themes being investigated are: Bioenergy – The use of biological sources for energy, specifically forest biomass. Biorefining – The process of "refining" multiple products from biomass to create various bioproducts such as fuels, power, materials and chemicals. Bioeconomy – Understanding the mechanisms and processes of the "green economy" as they relate to the social and economic fabric of our communities, regions, and nations. This study seeks to improve the end-of-life care in First Nations communities by developing community-based palliative care programs and teams. The presentation will highlight some results from a community assessment specific to developing palliative care conducted in Fort William First Nation in 2010-2012. Holly Prince, MSW, is an Ojibway woman from the Red Rock Indian Band and currently works as a Research Associate at the Centre for Education and Research on Aging & Health. Holly’s research expertise is in community-based and applied health services research using participatory methods. Luanne Maki is the Community Health Representative for Fort William First Nation.
