Commuter Challenge 2019 (employees only)
Commuter Challenge is a friendly, national competition that encourages daily commuters to choose sustainable modes of transportation for the benefit of their health and the environment.
From June 2 – June 8, hundreds of employees across Thunder Bay will cycle, walk, run, bus, carpool, or telecommute their way to work.
Commuter Challenge Details and Incentives
First 50 employees who register:
- Chance to win a free bike repair by Community Spokes
- Entered into a draw for prizes
Submit photos of your commute for a chance to win prizes!
Employees who use the hashtag #lakeheadsustainability or email photos of their commute to coordinator.sustainability@lakeheadu.ca will be entered in a draw for a prize.

Commuter Cycling Skills Course May 22, 23
Need to brush up on your cycling skills? email coordinator.sustainability@lakeheadu.ca to register for a 4-hour commuter cycling skills course, May 22 and 23, 5-7 pm on the Lakehead campus. Limited spots available, first come first served.
Prizes categories
Anyone who logs at least one qualifying commute is entered into a draw for the largest prizes
Other categories include:
- The employee with the most CO2 saved
- Most km cycled
- Most km total
- The most epic or unconventional commute
- The most modes of commuting
- Best photo submission
Top 3 things you need to know about Commuter Challenge:
- You only need to commute to or from work once during the week of June 2-8 in a mode other than driving alone to register and be entered into a draw for great prizes
- Any mode that is not a single passenger drive counts, including carpooling, walking, biking, taking the transit, telecommuting, rollerblading, canoeing, and more.
- Anyone who logs at least one qualifying commute is entered into a draw for the largest prizes, including $500 dollars each to Wilderness Supply, the Country Market, Sail Superior, Canadian Tire, and many more. Other prize categories include: Most CO2 saved, Most km cycled, Most km total, Most epic or unconventional commute, Most modes of commuting, Best photo submission.
